Key skills required for a Database Administrator:
3+ years experience of DBA
Extensive experience with data warehouses
Proven working experience as a Database Administrator
Hands-on experience with database standards and end-user applications
Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL
Previous experience with DBA case tools (frontend/backend) and third-party tools
Familiarity with programming languages API
Excellent understanding of the development life cycle for business applications across a number of technologies in the UK and International marketplace.
Strong knowledge of logical and physical data modeling concepts
T-SQL (MS SQL Server 2014, 2012)
SQL Server engine, performance tuning, storage internals, indexing, and statistics
Problem solving, solution architecture, and build
Database & data warehouse design (preferably Kimball), architecture and optimization
SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) 2012, 2014
SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) 2012, 2014
SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) 2012, 2014
MDX & DAX Scripting
Key responsibilities for a Database Administrator:
Debugging monitoring and troubleshooting BI solutions
Build database systems of high availability and quality depending on each end user’s specialised role
Design and implement database in accordance to end users information needs and views
Define users and enable data distribution to the right user, in the appropriate format, and in a timely manner
Use high-speed transaction recovery techniques and backup data
Minimise database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users
Determine, enforce, and document database policies, procedures, and standards
Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy, and integrity
Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required
Use ETL tools to load data into the data store(s)
Design and implement technology best practices, guidelines, and repeatable processes
Provide support as required to ensure the availability and performance of enterprise data and BI environments for both external and internal users
Ensure proper configuration management and change controls are implemented for your sphere of influence
